Rattlesnake Ranch | Private Water Fly Fishing Wolcott, CO
Rattlesnake Ranch Overview
Are there really rattlesnakes on this property?!?! No, there isn’t….or at least not the kind you know of. It’s an inside joke you can ask your guide about on the way to the river. Just like the name implies, the Rattlesnake Ranch packs a big punch in a small package!
Rattlesnake Ranch and the adjacent Vail Rod & Gun Club are often grouped together and access generally allows you to fish both properties. The Vail Rod and Gun Club is home to over 3 miles of the best private water on the entire Eagle River including the Lazy J Ranch overlooking the Eagle River Valley. Experience Colorado fly fishing on private water at it’s best with one of our vail fly fishing guides!

PRIVATE WATER FLY FISHING
Private Water Fly Fishing Opportunities Vail, CO
Minturn Anglers is very excited to announce several new private water venues for this summer. No matter what you are looking for we have the right stretch of water for you! The closest ranch we have for this season is the Lazy J ranch, home of the Vail Rod and Gun Club. Not only can we now offer local Horseback and sporting clays trips; we now have exclusive fishing access to over three miles of prime water on the Eagle River. This private stretch allows anglers the opportunity to see gorgeous scenery and target wild trophy trout that have never even seen a fly before. Our other ranches and fishing leases are anywhere from 30 minutes to over 2 hours from the Vail area. These other ranches have everything from small streams, lakes and ponds, to large floatable rivers. The number of days any of these locations are fished in a season are very limited, so please call for pricing and availability; as far in advance as possible. Newly renovated for 2013, the Rattlesnake Ranch is the Minturn Anglers’ base of operations for the Lower Eagle River. The Rattlesnake Run is a favorite spot to wade in early and late season when flows allow excellent access to large and feisty Rainbows and Browns. During higher flows, the Rattlesnake Ranch serves as our exclusive boat ramp and dining venue for our ever popular caste & taste fly fishing trip. Come and see where we spend our time off relaxing and fishing.

PRIVATE WATER ROD FEES
Rod fees are the fees the land owners pass on in order to access private water in Colorado. Unlike some neighboring states, land owners in Colorado own the stream bottom. This means that you can float through private water but cannot touch bottom, drop anchor and you certainly can’t get out and wade fish. By paying the rod fee, this allows you the opportunity of exclusive access to stetches of river that are seldom fished and that you can enjoy entirely to yourself. Rod fees are in addition to the price of our normal trip rates and can be added to half day, 3/4 day or full day fly fishing trips.
PRIVATE WATER TRIP DETAILS
Private Water access can be added to any of the following fly fishing trips we offer on the Eagle River Vail Valley….
Wade Fishing Trips on Private Water
The walk and wade trip provides novice and experienced anglers alike an excellent opportunity to experience Colorado’s breathtaking scenery and wildlife; as well as the opportunity to catch the trout of a lifetime. Float Fishing Trips on Private Water
During our float season on the Eagle River, you may consider adding private water to your trip. You may ask, “Why add private water to a float trip if we can float through and fish that water anyway?” We are glad you asked! The eagle river moves very quickly and if you break a fly off or tangle a line, your guide can drop anchor without burning through water rerigging when you could have been fishing! Adding private water to a float trip is also nice in that it will allow you to get out of the boat and wade fish the spots on private water that are fishing the best! Half Day Wade Trips: The half day is a 4 hour fly fishing experience from start to finish. This is a great way to test the waters of fly fishing or sneak away for a short evening trip
3/4 Day wade Trips: The 3/4 day trip is 5-6 hours door to door and is undoubtedly our most popular trip. This trip allows us to schedule fishing during the best two periods of fish activity either early in the morning or just before dark.

Will I catch a Fish?
Catching fish is never guaranteed, but we would say with strong certainty you will have opportunities to catch fish. WHY MINTURN ANGLERS?
We hire full time professional fly fishing guides committed to fly fishing. We are not a seasonal mass tourism fly fishing operation like you will find in most resort towns. We know our rivers intimately and are not learning them as we go. We are constantly making adjustments to your flies and rig throughout the day because we know that an extra split shot is the difference between catching a fish or not catching a fish.
Knowledgeable: Our guide staff is made up of authors, commercial fly tiers, and guides who fish and win fly fishing competitions. We are stewards of the sport and enjoy sharing our passion and knowledge for the sport with you. It’s easy to say, “we have the most knowledgeable and experienced staff” on a website. If you have any doubts we encourage you to ask around.
Innovation: We are innovators of our industry offering trips that no else does and service that is unrivaled. We are often followed or copied, but never outdone by other outfitters.
We Work Harder: The biggest difference is that we are the hardest working guides on the river. If we pass through a run that we know holds fish, we don’t just keep going. We back row it and adjust our weight and depths until we start hitting fish. Once we start hitting fish, we don’t coast. We fish the river hard from start to finish.
Honesty: We are more interested in having you back year after year as opposed to making a quick buck off you. If fishing conditions change drastically following a big rain storm, we will be honest about what you can expect and let you decide whether or not you still wish to fish or reschedule. We will always be happy to issue a refund if conditions wont allow for a great day on the river. That being said, we can’t think of a single day EVER where all stretches of water in Vail have been unfishable.
Friendliness. If our success could be summed up in one word, “friendly” would be that word. In an industry made up of arrogant fly fishing elitists, we have grown from nothing by consistently following the simple principle of, “Just be nice to people.”
