Welcome to our all inclusive two day Vail fly fishing school! Our two-day school is held every weekend from April through November in beautiful Vail, CO!
Our fly fishing school provides a safe, fun & memorable fly fishing experience for men, women & children even if you have never fly fished. We strongly encourage you to call or stop by any of our four fly shops with any questions you might have about our school, fly fishing in Vail & deals on lodging!
Vail Fly Fishing School: $325
Over the past 5 years, we have taught thousands of students how to fly fish, and we are constantly refining & improving our system of teaching fly fishing. Schools are held every weekend from May through November and can be scheduled at your convenience or offered as a gift certificate. Our fly fishing school is a fantastic way to, get a jump start into fly fishing, correct bad casting habits, and/or brush up on your fishing skills. No previous fly fishing experience is required and we provide all the core gear items if you do not have them (wader, boots, rods, reels etc.).
Dates: Fly fishing schools are held every weekend April through November!
Location: The Saturday Classroom portion is based out of our Minturn location. On Sunday we will spend the entire day on whichever of the Vail area rivers, stream or lakes is fishing best.
Fishing Locations: Depending on the season and fishing conditions, the Sunday on-the-river portion can take place on the Eagle River, Gore Creek, Colorado River, Roaring Fork, Homestake Creek, or Piney Lake & River. For those interested in fishing private water, we have exclusive access to the best 5 miles of private water on the Eagle River! Rod fee for private water is $125/person.
Who is it For: Our two day fly fishing schools are for men, women & Children ages 10 & up. No previous fly fishing experience is necessary. All you need is a good attitude, an open mind & a willingness to learn!
How To Sign Up: Once payment is received, you can choose any weekend from April through October. The classes are consecutive and will build on each other from one day to the next. Thus, it’s mandatory you attend the Saturday classroom session to get the most out of the Sunday on the water experience.
The course is instructed by professional fly fishing guides and competition anglers that hold a genuine passion for teaching fly fishing. Having taught 1,000s of people how to fly fish, we have developed a proven system of teaching that will allow you to leave the class with the skills and knowledge to go out on your own and have a successful day fly fishing.
Saturday Itinerary 8AM-12PM: Classroom, Knots & Rigging, Casting Instruction
This class will provide for a full day of comprehensive slide shows and instruction covering everything to include
- 8:00: Understanding & Choosing Equipment
- 9:00: Reading Water, Types of Rivers, Trout Habitat
- 10:00: Fly Fishing Entomology: What do trout eat?
- 10:30: Choosing Flies to Match hatches and conditions
- 11:00: Essential knots and rigging Clinic
Sunday 8am-1PM: On The River Instruction
Sunday will be spent entire on the River with our professional Vail fly fishing guides. The on the river portion puts to practice everything discussed in the Classroom portion the the previous day! We never put more than 3 students with one guide on the river.
- 8AM: Meet at our Minturn Fly Shop Location (10 Minutes West of our Vail Fly Shop)
- 8:30-9AM: Streamside Entomology (Finding & observing the bugs trout eat)
- 9-10AM: Reading the water, deciding which flies to use & properly presenting your fly
- 10AM-1PM: River etiquette, wading safety, how to hook & fight fish, proper catch & Release!
