Throwing a party to honor the bride-to-be is a tradition that goes back centuries. It is always a challenge to decide on a theme and venue that will be memorable and original. There are the usual spa days, shopping trips or even a weekend in Las Vegas, but a group of friends in Colorado came up with an idea for something much more fun for them. They arranged a fly fishing trip for themselves and the bride.

The bride and her maid of honor are real fishing enthusiasts and the other four women were determined to be good sports about it all. The bride was certainly surprised when she was taken to the Minturn Anglers fly shop in Minturn, CO. and learned what they were doing for the day. However, by the end of the day, the four newbies were the most surprised as they realized what a great time can be had on the water.

The staff at Minturn outfitted them with the necessary equipment. Even though the bride regretted not having her own gear, she was more than pleased with the selection she was offered. The group set out with two experienced guides for a few hours of walk and wade fishing.

It didn’t take long for everyone to settle down to serious fishing, with even with novices eager to learn enough to compete with the bride. The guides were great at coaching the new, somewhat reluctant fisherwomen and the effort paid off. When tentative casts turned into successful catches, there were high fives all around!

After such an early start, the (newly experienced) women were more than ready for a first class, elegant lunch served riverside with all the amenities. Minturn Anglers really knows how to put on a celebration meal. A tired but happy group made their way home with the maid of honor scribbling notes to use in her wedding reception speech.
