Fly Fishing on the South Platte Has been Great this Week!

With the warmer weather and increasing water temperatures over the past week, the trout fishing in Colorado and on the South Platte has really heated up. I had a chance to bend a rod at Deckers last Sunday after our sight fishing clinic and had fish doing back flips to eat an egg pattern. Guided a trip above Chatfield on Monday, and fishing was pretty steady for browns and rainbows in the 10-12″ range. Still no sign of any rainbows moving out of Chatfield to spawn but I will keep an eye on it (and let you all know after the fish are gone haha 😛 ) What I do know and will say is that fish have started moving into the Dream Stream out of Eleven Mile Reservoir. James was out yesterday fishing on his own and tied into a serious SLAB that stretched the tape out to 23 1/2″. Not to bad for a shop dog! Also look for the “big midge” to start showing up in Deckers any day now.
