Eagle River
Ask guide Scott Thompson about the Eagle River in the Fall and his response will be “It’s a special time”. Low flows mean smaller bugs, lighter tippet and longer leaders. Upper river from Minturn to Avon is the best place at this point with fish eating dries, streamers and nymphs. Sparse caddis, Red Quills and heavy midges are your best bugs to imitate and don’t depend on the watch for your best times to fish. It’s good aaaaaaallll daaaaaaaay.  Need a guide? We got em >>>
Gore Creek

Gore Creek remains reliable as the Summer comes to an end. Hopper droppers have picked back up regardless of the low flows and the cool temps. Fish those bad boys up and down Gore Creek but avoid the confluence of the Eagle and Gore, it’s got people camped on it daily . All through Vail is great right now as tourist pressure is dwindling until the snow starts. Fish Homestake as well if you like the small creekin’

Colorado River
The streamer bite is on like Donkey Kong. Keep an eye on the weather if you’re going to make that trek. Best fishing is from a boat as the “bikin hatch” has past us. If you aren’t familiar with the Colorado River…  Hire a guide from Minturn Anglers for optimal fishing results! Double streamer rigs with slumpbusters, wooly buggers, autumn splendors and bouface’s will turn a lot of heads. When the streamer bite slows, deep nymphing with small bugs will put a smile on your face, not on the fish’s. See above for a great Fall Fishing Special!

Deckers
With flows at 250cfs, plan on bringing the skinny rig. Smaller flies are the ticket at Deckers right now with small baetis and BWO patterns tricking most fish. Don’t leave home without your fluorocarbon and don’t be afraid to fish a rig as long as 12ft. Tricos are still holding on strong if you are looking to throw dries but if your approach is subsurface, make sure a buckskin is on your rig as the point fly.
Creeks
Bear Creek is still stupid good with caddis still coming off close to Lair O’ the Bear. If you get sick of throwing dries, pull a 180 and throw some soft hackles on and work your way back downstream. Right up the road, Clear Creek is fishing stellar if you are looking to fish some sweet canyon water. Weekends are crazy so plan on fishing closer to Georgetown than Golden.

Stillwater

Bass are getting lethargic so slower retrieves and smaller flies are key right now. Stillwater carping is still good with emphasis on Bingham Lake. Cherry Creek and Chatfield aren’t places to shake a stick at either. Slumpbusters, chironomids and molting crayfish are the best flies for this time of year.
Dream Stream
Muddy water below the weir is putting people off and makes fishing difficult especially if your throwing dry flies. If you want to stick it out, streamers are your best bet. Above Charlie Meyers parking lot, dry-droppers have fish looking up if you’re fishing hoppers and tricos. Don’t be surprised if the fish eat a small emerger below your trico. Dead drifted leeches are turning heads too.
