Eagle River
Lower water or not, the Eagle River continues to fish well. As the flows have thinned  to about 200 CFS, the bugs have gotten smaller and the water temps have risen. Plan on fishing the morning or afternoon with itty-bitty bugs. Most fish are being caught on flies in the 20-22 range. Bigger flies (Golden Stoneflies to be exact) are being fished in the lower river. Best sections are Avon down to Gypsum. Flies include Quasimodo Pheasant Tails, JuJu Baetis, Green Midges and Biot Stoneflies.
Gore Creek

Gore Creek is a big or small game right now. Small nymph rigs or big hopper rigs. The water is skinny and gin clear but they love the sight of a big bug slappin’ on the water. The bigger fish are loving the big bugs but plan on covering water when you’re fishing the hoppers. Otherwise, if your presentation is light, sit on some holes with your sz. 22-24 nymphs, larvae and pupae

Colorado River
Calling all early risers and night owls – the fishing is killer for those that’ll be the first one on the water or the last one to leave. The middle of the day is for scenery mostly – animals and  the “bikini hatch”. Think small PMDs and emergers trailed behind the famous Pats Rubber Legs or any other big stonefly nymph imitation. The water is lower this time of year so if you are going on your own, bring the raft. If you are looking to float and don’t have a boat, hire a guide from Minturn Anglers for optimal fishing results!

Expect endless follows and many vicious takes all day this Fall on a float trip with Minturn Anglers. Try something new and get on a boat with your favorite fly shop for some serious streamer fishing.
