Eagle River
Though we had a nice spike in flows last week, the Eagle River is down to 100cfs and continues in the downward direction. The fishing is still great though especially in the smaller stretches by Avon, Eagle-Vail and Minturn. This is a great time of year to get tactical and fish for trout you can spot. There’s still bug activity though it’s quite limited. Sparse hatches of caddis and PMD’s can be found throughout the day. The good part is the trout know we are towards the tail end and are eating on top quite well. Drop a little RS-2 or Top Secret Midge behind it for the more finicky trout. Best part about fishing the Eagle right now? Hardly any pressure! Need a guide? We got em >>>
Gore Creek
This fun little gem is still great with the best stretches being closer to West Vail. Keep your eyes peeled for a late evening dry fly bite as midges are thick as the day progresses. Renegades and Shuckin’ Midges have taken fish of late and the good ol’ fashioned zebra midge below should compliment your rig nicely. It’s quite clear so make a delicate approach. That’s fishing and walking to the river.
Colorado River
Now is a great time to be in a raft or even fishing from the bank on the upper Colorado River. Fish are eating voraciously as the days dwindle and the spawn comes. Speaking of the spawn, throwing streamers from a MA boat is the way to fish the Upper C this Fall so… Hire a guide from Minturn Anglers for optimal fishing results! Double streamer rigs with slumpbusters, wooly buggers, autumn splendors and bouface’s will turn a lot of heads. When the streamer bite slows, deep nymphing with small bugs will put a smile on your face, not on the fish’s. See below for a great Fall Float special!

Deckers
Flows are up and down but the fishing remains consistently good. Plan on staying the whole day because you never know when it will turn on but when it does… it does! There’s still dry fly activity on trico and midge patterns as well as some late Yellow Sallies, PMDs and Caddis. Afternoon hatches are not uncommon and people are still pinnin’ em on terrestrials with Amy’s Ant in red and green being the favorite. When there’s nothing airborn, an RS-2 and a worm will get you your fish for the day as well as 20 Inchers and small BWO emergers.
Creeks
Now that school is back in session, it’s not uncommon to take a weekday off and have the river to yourself. Late Summer/Early Fall is a great time to catch those beautiful colored up brown trout or those hidden brookies we all adore. Dry droppers are still on the menu as well as small streamers and light nymph rigs. Wherever you’re going, don’t forget your generic copper johns, pheasant tails and hare’s ears as well as your elk hair caddis and parachute adams. Stuck on a spot to go? Try Boulder Creek and thank us later.
Stillwater
Fish are fattening up for the Fall and the moss is dying off on our favorite carp and bass ponds. Now is a wonderful time to fish stillwater. Fall hiking is great with the aspen changing color so go for a hike and check out some high alpine stuff or some local reservoirs for your best shot at hungry fish!
Dream Stream
Construction continues on the Charlie Meyers section of the dream Stream Monday through Friday making for some very dirty water. The best fishing is done towards Spinney mountain reservoir with excellent sight fishing opportunities. The Trico hatch continues to be thick in the mornings and hopper dropper rig through the afternoons have continue to produce. Overnight temperatures continue drop and water has been ranging from 90 to 200 CFS meaning, soon there will be big browns on the move.
