Eagle River

The Eagle River continues to fish well as the warm winter has open water a plenty. Private or public, get your butt up to the Eagle for some guided or fun fishing. Midges and eggs are taking most fish but there’s been activity on caddis and stoneflies as well. Put down the skis and pick up a rod.Gore Creek
Tons of open water on this Rocky Mountain gem this winter and the fish are letting us know it. Plan on covering water and using lighter tippet (except on your small streamers). Your typical winter patterns are doing the trick but don’t hesitate to throw something different, maybe your own pattern! Fish are curious beasts and don’t have hands so they try things out with their mouth. Introduce the curious fish to some steel!
Colorado River and Roaring Fork
The lower Colorado river and the Roaring Fork have been great float fishing this winter and will continue until run-off. Stripping streamers, drifting bugs under  indicators and the occasional dry fly activity has made for some spectacular trips. Baetis are always the ticket so don’t leave those at home.

Deckers

Deckers has been up and down from a flows standpoint as well as a fishing standpoint. The two are definitely correlated as well. Look for consecutive days of steady flows for your best chances for success. Fish are creatures of habit just like you and I. The same patterns are doing damage on all tailwaters it seems this Winter. Small blue winged olive emergers, midges, worms, cranefly patterns and eggs should always be in the box!

It’s beginning to look (and feel) a lot like Spring and the cutthroat and rainbows have similar feelings. Though there is plenty of open water to fish, the big fatties aren’t quite there yet. You can find a few fish beginning to make their way up in the lower stretches but the low flows have em quite spooky. For flies and recommendations, swing by the shop.
Arkansas River
The Arkansas is running steady and the fish are happy and hungry. Always keep a baetis pattern on your line but switch up your midges and egg colors for best results. The deeper holes are the place to fish so bring your tungsten putty and heavy lead flies. Tungsten CDC pheasant tails are always a great fly to get your itty bitties down.

Urban South Platte

The colder the better for best results. The most popular spots are being pummeled so wait for crumby weather to get to tangle with the war pigs on your own. Don’t hesitate to branch out and try new waters as well. We all have our honey holes!
