THE FLY-FISHING SET UP FOR VAIL: WINTER
The 2014 – 2015 Vail Valley winter was a fairly mild one, overall. It started out threatening to be a huge snow year, and then the storms just took a break for a few weeks. In the end, there was snow, but not a lot; the cold weather kept it around, so in spring, there was runoff, and for a short time, fairly big runoff. But, that’s over now. Skies are clearing, and our spring and early-summer rainstorms have been limited to the occasional evening shower. Game Creek bowl is void of snow–the local indicator that the runoff is over. The rivers and creeks are coming down, and the water is clearing. Bugs are hatching and things are really shaping up for a great season of fly-fishing in Vail.
