Eagle River
We had an incredible weekend of weather and fishing. Take advantages of the holes in the weather moving forward as more winter weather is coming. That being said, those that have braved the weather and stuck it out with our guides have compared the fishing on the Eagle River to their best fishing all over the world! Fishing is great above Gore Creek but most are putting their focuses on the lower river and for good reason. Big fish are being caught! Golden Stones are the ticket if you’re making your way down towards Gypsum or Dotsero and baetis are the trick from Gypsum to Minturn. Streamers are catching a pile of fish throughout as well!   Needless to say, please don’t walk on/fish over spawning beds!!! Need a guide? We got em >>>
Gore Creek

She’s still fishin! Smaller sticks and longer leaders tapered to finer tippets are a must for this time of year but if you can get a good drift, you’ll get good eats. Try small pheasant tails and RS-2’s for best results. Streamers will get them in Gore Creek too but make em small. Stripped leeches or small Slumpbusters in natural colors especially “rust” are your best choice!

Colorado River
The Colorado River continues to fish well though you want to pick and choose your times. Shoot for being on the water towards the later end of the morning through 4pm (daylight savings sucks!) You will do well with small nymphs imitating midges and small baetis – choose your favorites, they will all work! If you are looking for a thrilling day with a chance of a big payoff, good Lord throw streamers! Articulated flies, Sculpzillas and Belly Dancers are our flies of choice – stop by and pick some up!  Hire a guide from Minturn Anglers for optimal fishing results

Deckers
The weather remains awesome on the Front Range which means great fishing and full days can be spent on the river. Pack a lunch, cover some territory and catch some toads! Eggs and small bugs are the ticket. Beads and mcflyfoam eggs in the 6mm size in cotton candy and cheese are catching fish (please be mindful of spawning redds and don’t fish to active spawners!). As far as tiny bugs – use the Top Secret midge and black zebra midges. If you wanna think outside the box Amy’s Ants and big streamers are still catching fish too!

Creeks
Fall colors on the Front Range are in full form and it’s a beautiful, scenic time to fish small creeks. Let the other folk chase spawners, get some solidarity and some stellar fishing on Bear Creek, Boulder Creek or Clear Creek. Fish are still rising to small hoppers and caddis and they are also chasing wooly buggers. Bring the camera and take it all in!

Urban S. Platte

Oh the lovely urban sections of our favorite river! Carp are beginning to move into their winter lies and can be caught in the head of riffles and runs. Worms, dead drifted Thin Mints, big Hare’s Ears and any style of jig fly should get eaten quite nicely. There are trout there too, browns especially so don’t be afraid to strip a big articulated streamer.

Dream Stream
We’re getting to the point where ya wanna leave those nice browns alone so we can play with their youngin’ in a few years. If you are going to fish there, focus on the deep slow pools for the prespawn fish and leave the riffles alone. Scuds, eggs, beads, leeches and lake chironomids are on the menu these days! The worse the weather it is, the better the fishing so don’t be afraid to brave it.
