The next step after becoming a wading fly fishing guide is graduating to a float fishing guide
Our float guide school is geared towards people who already have a good grasp of fly fishing and guiding on foot and are looking to take it to the next level
We recommend first taking the Wade Fly Fishing Guide School but for those looking to take the “fast track”, the Float Fly Fishing Guide School is a great way to get comfortable behind the oars and start gaining experience. Give your fishing buddy who owns the boat a break at the oars so he/she will start taking you out again now that he can fish too.
Rowing a boat in Colorado is not trivial for many reasons; but our experienced and knowlegable rowing instructors will give you all of the skills you need to safely row a boat in up to Class IV whitewater. Although the float school is focused on guiding fly fishing trips from a boat or raft, this program is also excellent for those who are not looking to guide but are looking to be able to safely navigate rivers and put their buddies on fish.
We cover all of the tricks of the trade you need to provide a quality fishing experience to those in your boat- from Crab Strokes to Z-pulley’s, we teach it all!
Due to runoff and attendance several schools will be held this May on The Eagle River and Colorado River. Our first session is from May 5th – 9th and the second session will be May 19th-23rd. The times and rivers will be determined by runoff. This awesome opportunity for a 5 day Float Fly Fishing Guide School costs each student $850 with $425 due 30 days prior to the session. Each passing student will be Colorado State Float Guide Certified at the end of the course. You do not have to own a boat or PFD to complete this course. Each boat accommodates two students and one instructor. Please let us know if you have any prior roqing experience when you enroll!
If fishing is not for you but you would like to learn to easily navigate our local rivers with a boat or raft, we also offer a Row School as well. Check it out!
Each Student Will Learn the Following:–
- Safe transportation and trailering/launching rafts and driftboats
- Mandatory equipment and it’s usage for all guided trips
- How to navigate whitewater safely
- How to navigate in order to best suit fishermen
- Colorado water laws and which streches of river to guide and fish on
- Familiarity with the Colorado, Roaring Fork and Eagle Rivers.
