Eagle River
You’ll read more about this later but right now is about as good as it gets! Name your bug – caddis, mayfly, yellow sallies, yellow stones, midges terrestrials… all comin’ off simultaneously. If you like to fish dry flies, get in the darn car and come on up. The Eagle River continues to be FLOATABLE but we don’t know how long this will last. Fish the Eagle River now!
Creeks
This is the perfect time of year to fish the creeks in the Vail Valley. Dry-dropper all day long while wearing your lanyard and wading boots? Uh yeah. Cover lot’s of water, catch lot’s of fish. Splat small hoppers, ants and beetles. Foam is ideal for floating Copper Johns and Prince Nymphs as well as Swing Caddis below your dry. Fish the Eagle by day and the creeks by dusk. It’s stupid good.
Colorado River
Droppin’ like a stone daily! We’ve been guiding up there daily and the big brown trout are on the feed. You can pull the trifecta – dry, nymph and streamer and be confident in all approaches. Best stretches for those floating on your own are Pumphouse to Radium, Radium to Rancho and Rancho to State Bridge.

Eagle River Dry Fly Bonanza! |

Book your Eagle River Guided Trip TODAY! |
When a river is fishing this good, it deserves it’s own spot in the weekly email
The Eagle River might be the best river in the state right now. We are currently experiencing the best dry fly action of the year and it continues to improve with current flows and steady temps. Fish are being found from back eddies to fast currents and every one of them wants to poke their nose out of the water. The bug activity is non-stop all day starting with midges in the early morning, caddis, yellow sallies and terrestrials until the afternoon BWO’s and PMDs; then a caddis night cap if the fish didn’t get enough to eat all day. We have clients who have never had so much action on the dry fly thanking our guides profusely. Load up on your floatant and leave the fluorocarbon at home. It’s dry fly time boys and girls and the fish are active! Get on up to the mountains if you aren’t here already and book a trip on private water with one of our knowledgeable fly fishing guides. 20″ fish are being hooked and landed regularly on the dry! Stop following bobbers all day, pick up your presentation rod and get your butt on the Eagle River! |

Deckers
Our local favorite is FINALLY below 1,000cfs! The fish are happy and enjoying their new feeding lies. The fishermen are happy because there’s actually bugs and cleaner water. That being said, please stay safe, we aren’t out of the woods yet. Even though the water is cleaner, it’s still high. The bite has changed from the typical worm/stonefly combo to some “techier” patterns below weight. Try various black and red midges below Barr’s Emergers (BWO or PMD) as well as Graphic Caddis.
Arkansas River
Slowly but surely, the Arkansas River is dropping. Salida is clear and thick with bugs while Pueblo is still dirty and flowing like the Mississippi. Stick to the upper river, it’s well worth it. There is bug life abound, fish anything yellow – Sallies, Stones and PMDS guys.
Creeks
The tiny stuff is stellar right now as the rains subside and the bugs reach their prime. The smaller creeks are stuffed with bug life and the high gradient/quick reaction dry fly fishing is really good right now. Put down the 5/6wt, pick up the 2/3wt and start slangin’ some dry flies! Clear Creek, Boulder Creek and Bear Creek are three of our local favorites.
Stillwater
Lot’s of rains and lawn care products flowing into local ponds has turned the water into weedbeds. Fish are eating VERY well when you can get a cast between the grasses, otherwise try the big water if you are thinking stillwater. Fishing grassy edges or edges with overhanging brush will bring opportunistic fish up to the surface, otherwise vary your depth along the ledges for smallmouth and trout. Carp and Wiper can be found if you think outside the box. Search for new water… it’s there!

Eagle River Private Water/Float Combo!
|
|
Have your cake and eat it too! |
The best of both worlds!
We’ve been asked too many times if our customers can float fish and fish private water as well. The short answer – hell yeah! We are happy to be able to provide this incredible fishing experience to all interested parties.
The Eagle River is a few days to a week out from being some incredible post run-off fly fishing and the private water has continued to fish stellar through the run-off. Double up and fish both this Summer with Minturn Anglers! Throw a private water fee on any float trip on the Eagle River and get the opportunity to anchor on and fish sections of the private water not accessible to private water wade fishermen until the Fall.
This is quickly becoming a Minturn Anglers customer favorite after it’s immense success last Summer. Float through the public water and crush fish, anchor in the private water and put the icing on the cake!
