How To Tie A Surgeon’s Knot
In this video, Alvin DeDeaux demonstrates how to tie a Surgeon’s Knot. The Surgeon’s Knot is our prefered method of attaching tippet to tippet. It is faster and easier to tie than a Blood Knot and the time you save outweighs the knot strength you gain from Blood Knot.

Quick Tip: When attaching two separate pieces of tippet, be sure to never jump more than two tippet sizes.  For example: if you have a 3X leader, attaching 6X tippet will drastically compromise the knot’s strength.  Thus 5X is the lightest tippet you should add to 3X.

Alvin is a good friend of the shop and guide in Texas.  For those seeking guided fly fishing trips and fly casting lessons in Central TX, he is your guy.  Alvin has over over twenty years of Texas Hill Country fly fishing experience  from bass to trout and everything in between. www.alvindedeaux.com
