Trout Hunter tippet, based in Montana, is one of the strongest tippets in both fluorocarbon and nylon monofilament on the market today.
As a fly fishing guide in Vail, Colorado, we use spool after spool of this stuff. Sometimes 6x is a little too light and 5x is a little heavy, so Trout Hunter has accommodated us with half-sizes. We’re finding that it is limp, seats knots well, and seems to resist abrasion as well as the best tippets we’ve tried. The larger-than-average spool size took some getting used to, I honestly didn’t notice it within a week of using the product. An extra bonus is that Trout Hunter is measured in meters, rather than yards, so you get almost ten percent more per spool.
Here’s what Trout Hunter has to say about their tippet:
Whether nylon or fluorocarbon, TroutHunter tippet material offers unsurpassed strength and reliability. Our leaders afford the angler unprecedented levels of turnover and control. Many features in our tippet and packaging system are unique and specific to the innovation of TroutHunter.
