Eagle River

The mild winter continues in the Vail Valley which means better water temps, more bug activity but unfortunately some dirty water below Milk Creek. Don’t fret too quick though, regardless of stained water the fish are still eating… very well! Start every rig off with an eye catching fly – egg, stonefly, hot spot jig, or a small streamer. once you get their attention, the smaller bugs – caddis larva, midges, small beatis are what they want to eat. Put your focus on the dirty water below Wolcott for best results with this technique. Anything above Edwards is hit or miss these days.Gore Creek
Tons of open water on this Rocky Mountain gem this winter and the fish are letting us know it. Plan on covering water and using lighter tippet (except on your small streamers). Your typical winter patterns are doing the trick but don’t hesitate to throw something different, maybe your own pattern! Fish are curious beasts and don’t have hands so they try things out with their mouth. Introduce the curious fish to some steel!
Roaring Fork and Lower Colorado River
The place to be in a boat during the middle of the winter. The easy 35 minute drive can offer up some warmer weather, less pressure than normal and some of the biggest fish of the year. Our winter floats on both of these world class fisheries is predominately nymphing deep in the most productive runs during the warmest part of the day. MIdges, BWO, Eggs and Stones will get the fish going for you. All our winter float trips are full days with lunch.
