New York Fall Brown Trout Overview

We are ironing out the details before the first of the year but this trip is something everybody is looking forward to based on a VERY successful “scouting trip” Expect four days of fishing with the possibility for some shotgun time for Ringneck Pheasants in between as an add on if you would like.  Last year’s excursion put on 1600 miles over 7 days chasing primarily Big Brown Trout, so expect to move for the fish. The wonderful thing about this trip is that there are many options to choose from. Although massive brown trout are the targeted species, it is very easy to change gears and target Steelhead or even some King Salmon if that’s what you would like to do. We fish 6-8wt single hand nymph rods for the Browns while some of the larger area rivers are perfect for swinging flies with 7-9wt Switch Rods.

Fishing

Fishing the tributaries of lake Ontario and Erie can offer an angler the chance to hold a fish of a lifetime. Join us for 2 days of wade fishing the tribs between Rochester and Buffalo. Many of these streams are easily crossed and often offer easy casts to great numbers of fish moving upstream to spawning grounds. During our travel day to the Eastern end of the lake we will be stopping at a private game preserve for a half day of upland bird hunting and a farm house lunch. Days 4 and 5 will be spent on a drift boat on the Salmon River fishing for Steelhead. Where we fish will be determined by the guides based on the current fishery conditions, changing locations while there can be necessary .

[tab title=”Why Minturn?”]

Why Minturn?

We hire full time professional fly fishing guides committed to fly fishing. We are not a seasonal mass tourism fly fishing operation like you will find in most resort towns. We know our rivers intimately and are not learning them as we go. We are constantly making adjustments to your flies and rig throughout the day because we know that an extra split shot is the difference between catching a fish or not catching a fish.

We Work Harder: The biggest difference is that we are the hardest working guides on the river. If we pass through a run that we know holds fish, we don’t just keep going. We back row it and adjust our weight and depths until we start hitting fish. Once we start hitting fish, we don’t coast. We fish the river hard from the put in to the take out and give you your moneys worth.
