When seasons change and actually every few weeks when I have some free time, I love to visit the Minturn Anglers Denver fly shop. Even driving into the parking lot gives me a boost, and just walking through the door is comfortable and comforting and maybe even a bit exciting. Need for new gear or simply feeding a hobby? Who cares? This is part of me.
Start with the organized simplicity of displays in the store, immediately bringing to mind quiet early mornings on calm Colorado waters. The colors of flies and accessories, rows of perfectly aligned rods and line spools, the beckoning of bright gear packaging, racks of waders, clothing and accessories, as well as the faint smell of new goods, fine machine oil and perhaps the whiff of testosterone. Perfect!
It is a pleasure to be greeted by friendly staff (Dave) who treated me as part of their family. They are always ready to spend a few minutes to update news and events, and know when to allow time for me to browse and when to offer assistance. I appreciate and value their expert knowledge and suggestions.
Unless I have some particular purchase in mind, I usually make a run through the entire store. Typically I check out the wall displays before spending time exploring center counters in detail. A new hat and a better pair of polarizing sunglasses are on my list today. And I am always on the lookout for the new flies that may provide me with the edge I need to grab that next big one on my next South Platte River or Dream Stream fishing guided trip. New additions to the reel and rod section are always interesting, especially when backed up with technical information from the Minturn Anglers staff.
Updates on conditions and action on waters identifying dream stream fishing areas are always a captivating conversation. These Colorado fly fishing reports whet my need to get back on the water, and offer direction to which part of the sparkling Colorado River system I will tackle next. This fly fishing store is the gateway to my unending passion for the sport. I love it!
