The phones at both shops are ringing, the guides are working like it’s summer time and even the “shop dogs” are sneaking a few hours on the river these days. As the old saying goes, “when the sun is shining, make hay”. With fishing friendly forecasts the last few weeks and many more to come, tourists and locals alike are hanging up the skis, resting their legs and headed to The Eagle River for some of the best fishing of the season. Sections on the river that have been covered up for months now are opened up and the fish are hungry. These rainbow and brown trout haven’t seen flies in almost a quarter of a year and are practically begging to put a bend in your rod. Indicator nymphing has been the ticket but many satisfied fisherman are coming in with ear-to-ear grins bragging about joining the 20-20 club (a 20″ fish on a size 20 fly) with dry flies!
